Green Oak Frame - Roof
Now that all the cross frames are done its time to turn our attention to the roof - namely the purlins and windbraces which will in turn support the oak rafters.
Here the stub ties are being fitted into the wall plates. A dovetail joint stops them from pulling apart.
Housings are cut into the principle rafters to accept the purlins.
The purlins are cut and seated into the housings, ready to lay out the braces for making.
The braces now fitted. The other side of the roof is in the background too.
The finished roof, with all purlins and braces fitted. This a double purlin roof with a lot of braces which has meant its taken quite a while to cut all the components!
